The Yallock-Bulluk Marine and Coastal Park, on Bunurong Country, extends along a 40-kilometre stretch of coastline on Victoria’s Bass Coast from San Remo to Inverloch. It combines coastal reserves with varied and dramatic landscapes, from cliffs to sandy coves, wetlands to underwater reefs.
Our multidisciplinary team is developing an approach to the sensitive landscape that champions the site’s rich ecological and cultural heritage as the traditional lands of the Bunurong People. The project is led by our Landscape Architecture team alongside our Civil Engineering, Town Planning and Surveying teams, and external sub-consultants.
Collaborating closely with Parks Victoria to realise a shared vision for the Park, our approach considers significant geological features, biodiversity needs and creating space for the stories of the Bunurong Traditional Owners to be told through the landscape and built outcomes.
We are prioritising design interventions that touch the landscape ‘lightly’, respond to the site and enhance the experience for visitors to the Park.
Punctuated by lookouts and beach access points, this unique and picturesque coastal environment will in time connect the existing network of walking paths, including the George Bass Coastal Walk. Spiire is planning approximately 5km of new track, 28 trail heads, three lookouts (Punch Bowl, Kilcunda, Eagles Nest) and associated car parks.
Our landscape architects, together with the Parks Victoria regional team, are auditing approximately 30km of existing trails, identifying minor works required, providing recommendations for treatment, and identifying improvements to the overall amenity of the park. Through collaboration with external subconsultants, we are developing interpretation signage, lookouts and trail heads which tell the stories of the Bunurong people and their connection to these lands.
Our civil engineers are leading the delivery of the car parks across the site. This includes validating the proposed designs, refining designs and preparing technical drawings to support the designs, drainage and grading works.
Our surveyors undertook land and feature surveys for the car park and lookout locations, as well as collecting wider data for the construction of the new trails.
Our Town Planning team is supporting Parks Victoria to establish an efficient pathway that will support planning approval, manage local planning and liaising with State Government authorities.
Together, our internal teams are also closely coordinating with external subconsultants across structural engineering, geotechnical engineering, arboriculture, traffic engineering, wayfinding and interpretation, to realise and efficiently deliver this project.
