Our work at the Wedge Rd community in Skye includes navigating multiple interfaces with existing properties and designing solutions to retain mature River Red Gums on site.

Spiire was engaged by YourLand Developments to provide Civil Engineering, Construction Consultancy, Town Planning, Surveying, Urban Design and Water Engineering services at Wedge Rd in Skye. The 200+ lot development is located in Melbourne’s south-east growth corridor, on a site adjoining a Green Wedge Zone.

The estate includes diverse lot sizes with multiple townhouse sites strategically located within the urban fabric. Large, mature existing River Red Gum Trees are a feature of the development, which are being retained and integrated within pocket parks.

Intensive planning and surveying was required to work through the site’s connections with multiple existing properties.

Our Town Planning team has worked closely with YourLand to find appropriate planning pathways since the outset of the project. After obtaining the necessary permission for the development to proceed, our planners have continued to respond to evolving issues and post permit matters to assist with development progression. The team is also assisting with subsequent permit applications for superlot developments which will contain multiple townhouse lots.

Our Civil Engineering designs include the relocation of power and stormwater assets to pave the way for the new community. Relocating an existing Melbourne Water 975mm diameter stormwater drain required a well-mapped integrated design and construction plan to ensure no disruption to drain operation throughout the construction.

Protecting existing trees

The civil designs also consider the necessary retention of existing native vegetation throughout the development.

This includes in the upgrade of the tree-lined Wedge Road. Approximately 200 metres of sealed road was constructed to provide better access to the new community, while retaining its rows of mature trees.

The Construction Consultancy team based in our Gippsland office is supporting the construction of civil assets for the estate’s multiple stages. This includes significant earthworks, given the site’s steep grade, and internal roads such as Seaberry Promenade, which runs the length of the development and intersects with the adjacent Green Wedge Zone.
