Pioneering and creative technology
Our Visual Media team’s clever use of creative technology has garnered significant industry recognition, scooping multiple awards in recent years.
View Full WidthThe Visual Media studio at Spiire has been busy delivering projects across multiple sectors, from property through to education. We’re proud that several of these projects have been recognised with awards on the local, national and global stage.
These accolades highlight the team’s capacity to apply their expertise with emerging technologies to create solutions that are tailored for different purposes and users.
In the 2024 Victorian Premier’s Design Awards, two projects were named as finalists in the Digital Design category.
VIC VICE and Smart Cities are both learning experiences that effectively deploy emerging technology to engage the next generation.
Studio Manager Michael Lyons says it’s rewarding seeing the impact of projects in the edtech space.
“For example, VIC VICE will reach a whole generation of young people in Victoria, which we hope they will recall as they progress into their careers,” he says.
“I remember those pivotal moments from my own school years of talking to the careers counsellor – who in my case, suggested becoming an electrician. While that wasn’t the right path for me it was an interesting experience. That’s the power of getting exposed to these different industries that you just don’t know about when you’re young.”
Building a successful partnership
From a casual phone call, an award-winning project was born. The statewide VIC VICE project evolved from a conversation with the Goulburn Murray Local Learning and Employment Network (GMLLEN) about using emerging technology to address high youth unemployment in the region.
Our solution was the Goulburn Murray Virtual Industry Careers Experience (GM VICE), an immersive platform that allows students to explore career pathways without leaving the classroom. Following on from GM VICE’s local success, the concept was then scaled up to reach students around Victoria.
Our team visited every corner of the state to develop this interactive learning experience, featuring interviews with real people, 10 locations shot in stunning 360-degree video complete with interactive touchpoints, and simulations of workplace activities to challenge and engage students.
VIC VICE launched in 2023, allowing high school students to “step inside” workplaces in the food and fibre, transport and logistics, and health and community service sectors, shining a spotlight on career opportunities in sectors facing skills shortages.
Along with being named as a finalist in the Victorian Premier’s Design Awards, the project received gold in the Digital – AR/VR – New Experiences category of the Better Futures Design Awards at the Melbourne 2024, Australian and World levels in 2025.
Designing bespoke solutions
In the property sector, our Visual Media team applies their innovative thinking to tailored solutions such as the Austin Lara Interactive Table.
It was designed to facilitate and enhance the sales process at Austin Lara, a residential development in Geelong’s northern growth corridor where many other Spiire disciplines are also providing services.
The team developed a pioneering solution that offers prospective buyers an interactive exploration of the 3D masterplan, complete with real-time data, through a touchscreen display coupled with a three-metre video wall. It was part of a larger package of works including 3D visualisation renders, aerial photomontages and a 30-second animation.
The project won the Consultants’ Excellence award in 2021 at the UDIA Victoria Awards for Excellence.
