When opportunity knocked to join our Gippsland team in 2021, civil engineer Bryce Wareham knew it had the potential he was looking for.

We had recently launched the dedicated Gippsland team under Nic Green’s leadership, building on Spiire’s established history delivering projects in the region from our wider Victorian network.

Bryce aligned with the values that guide our business and Nic’s intention for bringing that culture to life in the new office.

“I was drawn to the challenge of helping to build up a new office and lead people,” he says. “I’ve always found fulfilment in coaching others, from a young age.”

Now leading the Gippsland office as Business Manager, following Nic’s appointment as Region Manager for regional Victoria, Bryce is providing guidance to the team of 12 local consultants.

Bryce enjoys supporting the career development of his Gippsland colleagues and setting them up for the future, while aiming to instil a sense of pride in their contributions to the community.

“There’s a real need for engineers who can help shape projects with that sense of connection and responsibility to their community that comes from being local,” he says.

Having grown up in Berwick, he started down the engineering pathway after high school, earning his civil degree and taking a traineeship at Melbourne Water that sparked his affinity with the land development sector. He spent several years living and working in the city, before gravitating to the region with a role in Morwell.

“I’ve certainly fallen in love with Gippsland since spending more time in the region. I think it has the best of everything: easy access to the city, the snow, the beach, the bush. You’re not far from anything, but it feels like you’re secluded at the same time,” he says.

The close-knit team environment in our Gippsland office is well-suited to Bryce’s predisposition for taking a holistic approach to projects.

“My strength is in construction consultancy, but I appreciate being involved in the whole process. The thing I enjoy most is working with different teams throughout the whole project life cycle,” he says.

“It works well because part of working in a smaller team means taking on broader roles.”
