Experience professional development, inspiring leadership and gain exposure to real projects through our comprehensive Graduate Program.
View Full WidthAt Spiire, we believe in creating real opportunities to support our people’s ongoing professional development. We invest in initiatives that are tailored to help our people reach their learning and development goals.
This begins with our Graduate Program and continues through a variety of professional development offerings, leadership development programs, mentoring programs and Practice Area-led training initiatives. The success of these learning opportunities is grounded in our knowledge-sharing culture.
Our Graduate Program aims to support people in building the strong foundations for exciting and fulfilling careers. Graduates cultivate skills in all four areas of the consulting diamond: business, client, technical and people.
The program is also a valuable opportunity to form connections with the cohort of graduates working in different offices and disciplines across the business, while learning from experienced consultants among our leadership team, alongside external subject matter experts.
How you'll learn
Consulting competencies
Spiire’s consulting competencies are centred around becoming a well-rounded, professional consultant. We bring together our graduate cohort for in-person module days and run virtual sessions. These interactive workshops are a chance to learn from subject matter experts from both within and outside of Spiire.
Practice Area technical competencies
Each discipline, also known as Practice Area, has a tailored technical competency plan to help graduates acquire, through practical experience, a range of skills and knowledge to underpin successful careers. Graduates work through these competencies progressively and are supported to gain exposure to a diverse range of tasks and projects.
Understanding our business
Graduates develop a sound understanding of how our business operates and are encouraged to participate in optional experiences such as secondments in other Spiire offices, seeking out cross-discipline collaboration, and getting involved in Practice Area or broader business events, training and committees.
What you'll gain
We asked a consultant who has completed the program, Martina Mohenska, to share her reflections on what they learned as Spiire graduates.
Now a Senior Professional, Martina became a part of the Melbourne Landscape Architecture team as a Graduate in 2017.
The diverse opportunities for networking, connection and exposure to the industry made the program invaluable to developing her career, she says.
By having an open mind, she dove into a range of learning experiences that helped her build the foundations for a rewarding career at Spiire.
“I never expected to encounter so many valuable opportunities,” she says.
Module days
Personal Effectiveness
Module days bring together grads and students from across the business under one roof, to foster stronger connections between regions and disciplines.
In 2023, the cohort learned about time management and personal effectiveness in a face-to-face session at Melbourne’s Wyndham Tech School.
Participants explored tools to help develop effective time management skills and heard productivity tips from senior leaders in an engaging panel discussion.
A mixture of structured content and live Q&A sessions gave participants the opportunity to engage in both theory and practice, learning from personal challenges and successes across our diverse team.
The Art of Consulting
Module days also give graduates a chance to challenge themselves and apply the theory to real-life scenarios.
The Art of Consulting Module presents our Grads with the chance to practise an integral skill: creating a mock proposal.
At a recent module day in Melbourne, senior consultants shared their tips on what makes a compelling consultant. Participants were then given a briefing, based on a real-world project Spiire has successfully delivered, and tasked with creating their own proposal.
Participants were broken into groups to collaborate with team members across different offices and disciplines, supported by experienced consultants on-hand throughout the afternoon to help with practical advice.
After having a few weeks to prepare the proposal as a team, each group had the opportunity to showcase their learnings by presenting their pitch to senior consultants acting as the clients.
Career Development and Planning
The Career Development and Planning Module equips our Grads with the skills and insights needed to navigate ever-evolving workplaces and take charge of their career growth.
In part one, participants focused on five essential skills: agility, collaboration, digital literacy, critical thinking, and emotional intelligence. Through self-assessment, they identified their strengths and areas for improvement, with a look ahead to future work trends. During a recent instalment of this module, one of our senior engineers shared practical tips on leveraging AI to enhance productivity and accelerate learning.
In part two, our Grads heard directly from senior leaders across our business, who shared how they’ve built successful careers by seizing opportunities and developing professional networks.
